Download this activity on Manifest Destiny.
Individually, read the quote about Manifest Destiny. Using the information in the reading, complete the questions underneath INDIVIDUALLY.
Submit assignment in Schoology (Manifest Destiny Definition) with annotations to answer the questions.
2. Image Analysis - American Progress
Download this IMAGE.
Individually, examine the painting by John Cast (1872).
In Photos, open the photo.
Click on Edit
Click on the three dots (...) in the menu and select Markup.
Circle things in the image and label with what you think they are. Save your image and upload into Schoology (Manifest Destiny Image).
On notebook paper, turned landscape, make a three column chart and label 1. What I See, 2. What I Think it Means, 3. What It Really Means.
Under the column, 1. What I See: Indicate things you see in the picture. Don't make any judgements or inferences here.
Under the column 2. What I Think it Means: Tell what you think that part of the image means, why the artist included it in the painting, what is might symbolize.
Leave column 3 blank as we will discuss it Thursday in class.
Turn in the paper to the teacher at the end of class.

Lewis & Clark: A Road Trip for the Ages
Using the Google Map Link HERE, investigate the exploration of the Louisiana Territory by Lewis & Clark from 1804-1805.
Respond to the questions on the Road Trip Activity sheet by downloading in Adobe Reader.
Submit in Schoology when finished.
Should you finish the Lewis & Clark activity, use your class time to work on the Westward Expansion Map for extra credit OR any work that you are missing for my class.
Check Power School for missing work.
Remember, if you are submitting something LATE that was a submission in Schoology, send in a message as an attachment.

Was the United States justified in their expansion west to the Pacific Coast?
Was Andrew Jackson justified in his signing and approval of the Indian Removal Act?
How would the United States be different if neither of these turning points occurred?

Individually, you are going to determine your opinions and responses to the "Big Questions."
For this final analysis, you will use your responses from the prior Indian Removal Act activities (Student Answer Sheet & Decision Making Scaffold).
